If your life has been affected by someone else’s drinking,

Al-Anon Family Groups in Suffolk County, NY

What are Al-Anon Family Group Meetings?

Al-Anon Family Group meetings, held all over the world, from locally to globally, are places where friends and family members of problem drinkers share their experiences and learn how to apply the principles of the Al-Anon program to their individual situations.

We learn that we are not alone in the problems we face. We come to realize that we have choices that lead to greater peace of mind and more fruitful lives, whether the drinker continues to drink or not.

Alcoholism is a complex problem with many related issues. Al‑Anon can help us learn how to cope with our common challenges.

Al-Anon has but one purpose: to help families of alcoholics.

Find a Meeting

Meetings are held both in person and online. As such, choosing your Home Group is a matter of personal preference. Al‑Anon recommends that you try at least six different meetings before you decide whether Al‑Anon can be helpful to you.

While each meeting has the autonomy to be run as its members choose, all meetings follow Al-Anon guidelines, designed to promote unity. In addition to meetings, the many tools of the program include the Serenity Prayer, slogans, sponsorship, service — along with The 12 Steps, 12 Concepts and 12 Traditions.

Alateen Meetings

Alateen is part of Al-Anon Family Groups. Alateen meetings are for young people aged 13 to 18 who have been affected by someone else’s drinking.

Sharing experience, strength, and hope to find effective ways to cope with problems. Alateen members discuss difficulties and encourage one another, one day at a time.

When an Alateen meeting is not available, teens are always welcome to attend Al-Anon meetings.

Experience, Strength and Hope

In Al-Anon, we find understanding and support by sharing our common experiences with one another.

Some of us are here because a spouse or partner has struggled with alcoholism. For others, the problem drinker is a parent, child, or grandchild. Sometimes a brother, a sister, or some other friend or relative brings us to Al-Anon.

Over time, we come to understand how the Al-Anon principles worked for others. We keep coming back because it takes time to Listen and Learn.

We do this by attending meetings, reading Conference Approved Literature, working with sponsors, doing service and hearing members share at meetings. Visiting multiple meetings before selecting a Home Group is strongly encouraged.

Let It Begin with Me

When anyone, anywhere, reaches out for help,
Let the hand of Al-Anon and Alateen
Always be there, and Let it Begin with Me
